Sometimes the most twisted videos are the ones that kicked off the whole music video culture. So, on this Friday, we’re gonna be heading back into the past to check out Herbie Hancock‘s infamous “Rockit” video, which ultimately snagged five MTV Video Music Awards in 1984 (the year I was born). The video, which was directed by duo Godley & Creme, is full of robotic humanoid sculptures that are never quite complete and move in jarring, unsettling manners. It was revolutionary when it was released and it still ranks highly among the “WTF did I just watch?” music videos.

Hard rockers Avenged Sevenfold have released the full Hail To The King animated series on Happy Hour. The six-episode series combines the music of the band’s latest album with the direction of Metalocalypse‘s Jon Schnepp. The animated series tells the fictional story of the Death Bat – the band’s longtime trademark. It is also the precursor to an upcoming A7X video game.
Singer M Shadows says: “The animated series tells the story ‘before’ the game takes place. When the series ends, the game picks up.”

Paris, France deathcore band Betraying The Martyrs is working hard on their sophomore studio album, which will be the follow up to 2011′s Breathe In Life. To build up some hype for the upcoming release, an official orchestral rendition of “Liberate Me Ex Inferis” (Event Horizon, anyone?) has been released. It’s very interesting to hear what a difference in sound and emotion an orchestral version can have versus the original track. Both are below or your viewing pleasure. READ MORE
Perhaps one of the best music videos this year, Behemoth‘s “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” is a horrific, nightmarish vision, matching the intensity and terrifying nature of the song itself. In a brief, candid interview, vocalist/guitarist Nergal discusses the video and how it went from concept to actualization with the help of Grupa 13. Check out the video interview below.
“Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” comes from the band’s upcoming album The Satanist, which is out early 2014 via Metal Blade Records (US) and Nuclear Blast Records (EU). READ MORE
Just in time for Christmas, horror icon Christopher Lee has posted a video with samples of his metal covers of “Jingle Bells” (entitled “Jingle Hell”) and “My Way”. In between the samples are short messages from Lee where he wishes his viewers and fans a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Head on below to hear the sonorous-voiced renditions of these classics.
Remember that really terrible yet catchy song “Butterfly” by rap/rock group Crazytown? Well, that song may have (hopefully) faded away but the band themselves have returned (god only knows why). And to mark their return, they’ve brought a lyric video to their new song “LemonFace”, which comes off their upcoming album Brimtstone Sluggers. Now, I’m not going to comment on the worth of the song itself because I want to hear your thoughts on that. Instead, I’m going to note that the lyric video uses some horror imagery that I thought was rather interesting. I was able to catch their use of the Hell Baby poster as well as We Buy Your Kids’ cover for Mondo’s Poltergeist soundtrack. Those two immediately popped out for me. If you readers find any more, let me know! It’s kinda like playing Where’s Waldo…
Metal icons Metallica have uploaded a 20+ minute video of their performance in Antarctica, which took place on December 8th. The video features footage of the band performing at their soundcheck plus headphone/camera audio of “Creeping Death”. Check it out down yonder.

Earlier this year, the BD readers were introduced to Knee High Fox and singer Christine Connolly (who appeared in 2006′s Underworld: Evolution) with her 10 Favorite Females In Horror list. Now she’s back and this time she comes packing a brand new music video that we’re premiering! Below you can watch the official music video for “Nightmareland”, which I daresay is a tad NSFW (no nudity but it gets pretty close). Enjoy!
Many of you might know the gaming channel Game Grumps, which features several gamers tackling different titles and providing usually entirely unrelated commentary over top (which is often absolutely hilarious). Well, two of those fine fellows, Arin and Danny, have just released a video game themed hip-hop comedy album under the moniker Star Bomb. But not only have they released an album, they’ve also released an animated music video for the track “Luigi’s Ballad”, which was drawn by Arin himself. The video tells the tale of Luigi’s attempt to express his feelings for the Princess only to have Mario interrupt and force himself into every situation. I warn you that the video is definitely NSFW due to language and some highly suggestive imagery. Still, it’s really awesome.

I’m a huge fan of covers that are done on different instruments from the original. It has the ability to give the song a breath of fresh air, giving it a simple clever twist that would’ve otherwise been missed. It also demonstrates the musicians ability to take a song and transpose it to a different instrument, which is sometimes not the easiest of feats. This cover of Periphery‘s “Make Total Destroy” does just that. Already recognized by the band, the cover features Zombie Frogs members Joey Izzo (piano) and Erik Huang (drums) tackling this behemoth of a track and nailing it right on the head. The chorus is something especially awesome and well worth dedicating four and half minutes of your time for. READ MORE

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? Well, it’s pretty clear that BD favorite music video director Phil Mucci (Huntress, Opeth, High on Fire) knows exactly the answer to that question. Below is a trailer for the upcoming “All Those Delicate Cuts” music video from Das Muerte, which feels like it’s heavily influenced by the classic radio serial The Shadow. There’s sexy dames, old-timey cops, and beautiful classic cars, all set in stark black and white that is splattered by shocking red at all the right moments. I’m seriously excited for this video, but then again I’m pretty much always game for a Mucci-directed clip. Check out the teaser below and bring it on! READ MORE
Just in time for the holidays, YouTube user Musical Jester has posted a video where he sequenced, printed, cut, and hole-punched a roll of paper that runs through a music box and plays “This Is Halloween”, the classic opening song from Nightmare Before Christmas. It has a wonderful tone and is incredibly impressive, especially once you see how big the roll of paper is. Also, take a moment to appreciate how he maintains the same speed through the video. My arm would get tired 30 seconds in. READ MORE
